Special Information
• This position is a hybrid position which allows the incumbent to complete their work at both the Flagstaff Mountain campus and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation.
• This position is grant funded from the US Department of Education and subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Classified Staff layoff or recall status.
• This position requires up to 75% travel within northern Arizona.
• This position may require more work than 40 hours per week and/or work hours outside the normal 8-5 business hours to accommodate for grant requirements.
Job Description
NAU Educational Opportunity Centers (EOC) provides services for adult participants seeking assistance for attending or returning to post-secondary education across Northern Arizona. This position is highly independent, however will work with other EOC Coordinators to meet yearly goals and objectives.
Participant Support Services - 50%
• Identifies and recruits eligible participants that meet federal guidelines in target areas for EOC services.
• Assists with the design, implementation and evaluation of services that provide innovative, meaningful, and supportive experiences to participants that integrate academic understanding and individual growth.
• Provides career, educational, personal, academic, and financial aid counseling, as well as technical assistance with local, tribal, and federal financial aid to adult learners.
• Assists adult participants in creating their personal plan for education pathway through a variety of tests, assessments, and analysis through tools and resources.
• Provides tutoring, mentoring, and support groups for GED prep, and provide referrals for participants to various resources.
Program Liaison and Outreach - 30%
• Initiates, cultivates, and maintains relationships, partnerships and networks with community programs, resources, and institutions.
• Utilizes public relation skills to promote EOC program services in and around the service area.
• Organizes, coordinates, facilitates and conducts workshops pertaining to EOC activities.
• Maintains online calendars, website, and participant sites to inform about events, engagement opportunities, etc.
• Represents the department or work unit on various committees, work groups and employee forums.
• Creates relationships with tribal entities, programs, and/or organizations that will encourage participation and community collaboration.
Recordkeeping and Reporting - 10%
• Utilizes an online data management software to accurately maintain participant and service information for grant compliance.
• Ensures that accurate online and hardcopy records and files are maintained for participants and prepares reports on the EOC site.
• Assists in the preparation of monthly, semi-annual, and annual reports to the US Department of Education.
Team Support and Training - 5%
• Collaborates with EOC team members on a various of tasks, events, and coordination that our grant stipulates and helps increase community awareness and participation.
• Assists team in evaluating and assessing program services in relation to grant objectives and the needs of participants.
• Attendance at division, unit, and any team meetings.
• Committee service to cultivate and support division, unit, and team goals.
• Assists with proposals/grant writing.
Other - 5%
• Required travel and work on some evenings and weekends.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, or Social Sciences field,
• 2-4 years' experience in a higher education institution.
• Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree in Counseling, Education, or Social Sciences field.
• Knowledge of basic counseling techniques and principles.
• Knowledge of Federal TRIO programs.
• Experience working with tribal and federal financial aid.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
• Knowledge of higher education law, including FERPA, Title IX, etc.
• Knowledge of basic counseling techniques and principles.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with colleagues and participants.
• Strong verbal & written communication.

Driving Requirement
Driving a vehicle on behalf of the university is anticipated to be a regular part of this position. Arizona Administrative Code Fleet Safety Policy requires all employees who drive on university business become authorized by submitting Driver's license information for driving record monitoring, and completion of training appropriate to the level of driving performed. The law applies to all faculty, staff, and students who drive personal or university-owned motorized vehicles for any business purpose. This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. Salary
Anticipated salary range is $44,422 - $47,000. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
FLSA Status
This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.
