Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a Principal Controls Systems Architect in the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Office of CO+I, you will be responsible for responding to future market and business requirements to innovating new data center control systems architectures and product solutions that enable new capabilities and improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of Microsoft's data center. You will work with a cross-functional team of engineers, researchers, and business partners to identify customer needs, generate innovative ideas, and deliver high-quality solutions. You will also collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure alignment with Microsoft's standards and specifications.

+ This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX or Phoenix, AZ.
+ Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location.
+ This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 50%.
**Responsibilities**
+ Provide technical leadership for the control system architecture and engineering team in developing innovative and scalable systems and products for Microsoft's data centers.
+ Define the system requirements, specifications, architectures, and interfaces for the products, ensuring alignment with customer needs, industry standards, and regulatory compliance.
+ Coordinate with cross-functional teams, such as product management, software engineering, hardware engineering, networking, testing, and validation, to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of the products.
+ Manage the system integration, verification, and validation activities, including conducting prototype testing, field trials, and customer feedback sessions.
+ Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and coaching to the system engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
+ Research and evaluate new technologies and trends in control systems and data center innovation.

**Qualifications**
**Required Qualifications:**
+ Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years experience in engineering (mechanical, electrical engineering, architecture)o OR equivalent experience.
+ 3+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
+ 4+ years experience with mission critical control systems, supervisory control and data acquisition
+ 4+ years experience with designing systems and/or developing products for industrial or mission critical environments.
+ 4+ years experience with Programmable Logic Controller(PLC)/Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition(SCADA) systems instrumentation, Input/Output(I/O), control programming, machine control, safety systems, and Human Machine Interface (HMI) development

+ Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
**Preferred Qualifications:**
+ Master’s degree in electrical engineering
+ Experience with cross-discipline systems design (mechanical, electrical, structural, Information Technology (IT)/Telecom).
+ Data center systems and data center infrastructure architecture product design
+ Proficiency in Building Automation System(BAS), SCADA, PLC, HMI, and machine control programming languages and platforms, such as Rockwell, Siemens, Schneider, Beckhoff, or others.
+ Knowledge and skills in control systems design, analysis, simulation, and testing tools and methods, such as Matlab, Simulink, LabVIEW, or others.
+ Experience with Data center thermal systems design, analysis, and optimization of cooling systems for data center environments, hydronics, cooling distribution, liquid to liquid and liquid to air heat exchangers.
+ Data Center Electrical Systems design, energy back-up and uninterrupted power supply, medium voltage switch gear, low voltage power distribution
Technical Program Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
