Job Description - Regulatory Attorney
Regulatory Attorney
We are currently seeking a talented, motivated and solution-focused regulatory attorney for a mid-level to senior federal regulatory attorney position. The successful candidate will perform legal services required by TEP and its affiliated companies (collectively “Company”). The Company’s service territory is in Arizona and the successful candidate must be a Tucson, Arizona resident or willing to move to Tucson.

Position Description and Related Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Serves as federal regulatory counsel, providing advice and counsel to all levels of management and multiple corporate client groups primarily on matters subject to federal utility regulation.
Monitors new rulemaking and policies and performs research and analysis of the Company’s factual and legal position regarding various regulatory and related matters.
Analyzes applicable law and supports the development of strategies to mitigate risk and comply with existing and potential regulation in areas including supporting the Company’s participation in regulatory and legal proceedings.
Advises and provides counsel on federal regulatory matters, including environmental legal matters such as air quality, water quality, and hazardous waste, and FCC licensing and pole attachments, with the assistance of outside counsel as needed.
Advises on and assists in the development, implementation and oversight of Company policies, procedures, and controls for compliance.
Provides necessary training to Company personnel to ensure overall corporate compliance.
May represent the Company in regulatory proceedings before the EPA and other state environmental and federal regulatory agencies, with support of outside counsel, as determined appropriate.
Provides counsel on permitting and compliance matters, supporting the preparation and filing of various compliance documents.
Communicates and collaborates with personnel throughout the Company and external industry peers, trade organizations and regulators, as appropriate, representing the Company’s interest in industry initiatives, policies, regulatory filings, and compliance best practices, as well as fostering positive relationships across such organizations.
Contract review and negotiation related to assigned regulatory areas of responsibility.
Works with and manages outside legal counsel and consultants and budgets for the same.
May perform any other duties as may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.)

Minimum Qualifications

Degree from ABA-accredited law school.
Admitted or ability to become admitted to practice law in the State of Arizona.
At least five (5) years of legal experience as a regulatory attorney or equivalent legal experience.
Superior written and verbal communication skills, critical thinking and organizational skills required, proven self-starter.
