Responsibilities Job Summary The Post Doctoral Fellow will assist in the development and testing technology platforms in areas that may include in vitro co-culture models of human and microbial cells, sample preparation protocol and assay chemistries development to be used for the detection and quantitation of targets of interest (peptides/proteins, small molecules), genomic discovery (biomarkers), to investigate the genetic basis of diseases. The successful candidate will have demonstrated abilities in sample preparation techniques used in genomic and proteomic research as well as the use of state-of-the-art co-culture techniques and mass spectrometers, genomic discovery technologies, biostatistics and bioinformatics. Initial appointment may be up to one year with renewal contingent upon funding and performance. The main activities comprise conducting literature searches, designing and planning experimental protocols, preparing laboratory set up, running laboratory experiments. These experiments aim at possibly assisting clinical collaborators in collecting biological samples, , culturing cell lines and conditioning metabolite samples for running biochemical assay kits following manufacturer procedures and/or modifying conditions for preparing samples suitable for high performance analysis using mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography, and sequencing methods. The candidate will perform the experimental work compliant with high quality data gathering and analysis. Interactions with a diverse group of suppliers and collaborators are also critical for sharing resources and knowledge. Data collection, analysis and reporting as well as communication with collaborators and supervisors are also important. Participation in writing scientific reports, preparing publications, presentations and seminars as well as establishing other documents (e.g. grants) and/or participating at meetings that may be required for the operations may also be assigned. Instrumentation calibration and maintenance will be performed by specialized personnel. Qualifications Education PhD or equivalent in Applied Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Microbiology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or related field. Required Experience 1 year post-graduate experience from an accredited Institution is highly desirable. Required Other Experience with biological sample preparation, laboratory methodologies, biochemistry techniques and molecular analysis. Required
